May’s project makes eight unisex shaving soaps to keep for yourself, give away, or both! Women – you can use it to shave your legs. Men – you can use it to shave that five o’clock shadow. Have fun playing with the Foaming Bath Butter to achieve a whipped, soft, soufflé-like consistency and throw in some skin-loving ingredients like Olive Oil, Chamomile Extract, and Bentonite Clay for an extra luxurious touch.
Olive Oil is extremely gentle, it contains vitamins A and E, and is great for sensitive skin. Chamomile Extract is an anti-inflammatory. On the skin, it helps reduce redness and is soothing to inflammation. The Bentonite clay adds a “slip” to the shaving soap for easy razor gliding, helping to prevent razor burn.
What you’ll need from home:
Electric Stand Mixer or Hand Mixer
Large Mixing Bowl
Mixing and Measuring Spoons
ONE: Open the container of Foaming Bath Butter and use a spoon to scoop it into your stand mixer bowl.
TIP: An electric hand mixer also works.
TWO: Add the Olive Oil (4oz) and Chamomile Extract (1 oz) to the Foaming Bath Butter. “Lock” the stand mixer and turn on low to whip the mixture for 1 minute. Periodically stop the mixer to scrape the sides with a spatula then mix on medium/high for 1 minute.
THREE: When you reach a fluffy consistency, add 2 tablespoons of Bentonite Clay and 6 ml of Tobacco and Bay Leaf Fragrance Oil and mix again on low for 1 minute, then on high for 1 minute, until you reach a smooth and fluffy consistency. Be sure not to over-mix as the “fluff” could collapse.
FOUR: You’re done! Scoop into jars.
Variation: Don’t have an electric mixer? No problem. The foaming bath butter is also a melt and pour base. In a heat safe container, melt the foaming bath butter in the microwave on 30-second bursts until fully melted. Then add the Olive Oil, Chamomile Extract, Bentonite Clay, and 6ml Fragrance Oil. Mix well to eliminate the clay clumps and pour into jars.
Bonus Recipe: Shaving soap isn’t your thing? Make a sugar scrub instead! Follow steps 1-3 then mix
in 32 oz (about 2 cups) of white sugar from your pantry. Test out the scrubbiness on your hand and add more sugar if you want a more abrasive scrub. Have fun and make this recipe your own!
To Use – Women: For an ultra-close shave, exfoliate your legs using a salt scrub or sugar scrub prior to shaving . Then add 1-2 tablespoons of the soft shaving soap to your clean, damp legs. Massage into the skin until it forms a fluffy lather. Shave your legs as normal. Rinse the remaining soap off with warm water.
To Use – Men: Add 1-2 tablespoons of the soft shaving soap to your clean, damp face. Massage into the skin until it forms a fluffy lather. Using warm water will help soften the follicles for a closer shave. Shave as normal.
